In early November, after being out of the public eye since September 31, 2006, the newly restored Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum on Manhattan’s west side celebrated its Grand Reopening. To help the prestigious vessel during its $115 million restoration, Consolidated Technologies, Inc. was awarded the distinct honor of updating the phone system aboard the historic aircraft carrier, one of America’s leading cultural and educational institutions. The updated system will allow its infrastructure to meet a new set of more sophisticated demands being placed on the Museum in order to service the customer at the high level desired.
With more than one million anticipated to visit the Intrepid each year, the new, more robust Avaya solution will allow the popular tourist destination to better handle the high call volume and empower its people to service their customers’ more efficiently. The implementation of Avaya’s Communication Manager Solution includes a new customer support call center and automated information services. The addition of IP connectivity and mobility solutions provides for better communication and collaboration for the folks both on and off the ship.
“The Intrepid is such a large and dynamic facility,” said AVP of Technology Darren Stone, “and this renovation and relaunch has brought us to a new level of additional and more complex needs. Avaya’s extension to cellular feature now allows our folks to be reached even if they’re not at their desk, cutting down on missed calls response time.”
“What an exciting experience for CTI to be part of this restoration,” CTI President Kenny Heitner said. “We are thrilled to be a part of the restoration and improvement of this great ship with its amazing history. And now it will also boast today’s most advanced communication technologies.”
“What really moved me the most,” Heitner continued, “Was learning about the tireless efforts and support the Intrepid and its sister organizations the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, the Fisher House Foundation, and the Intrepid Relief Fund provide to so many of our honored nation’s heroes. I encourage everyone to learn more about these amazing organizations.”
